GCF Task Force Member States contain more than one-third of the world's tropical forests—including 100% legal Brazilian Amazon, 85% of the Peruvian Amazon, 65% of Mexico's tropical forests, and over 60% of Indonesia's forests.

Membership has grown to include 38 states and provinces since the GCF Task Force's inception in 2008 (beginning with 10 states). Pastaza, Ecuador, Roraima, Brazil, and Oaxaca, Mexico were accepted as new members at the 2017 GCF Annual Meeting in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, Indonesia.
