Basilio Velázquez Chí

Basilio is of Mayan indigenous origin and speaks in this indigenous language. He has a degree in education, with 25 years of experience in Community Projects in the rural environment, in Community Education Projects and Sustainable Community Development. Basilio collaborates with the Mayan communities of Quintana Roo and the Yucatan Peninsula, in Mexico, with

community organizations, civil society and government institutions in Sustainable Development projects. His main axes of action focus on: participatory social organization and the sustainable use of natural resources, social entrepreneurship and community businesses. Basilio is a member of the REDD + Safeguards Committee in the Yucatan Peninsula, in Mexico, and has collaborated in the construction process of the REDD+ Strategy at the national level and in the state of Quintana Roo, in the construction of the State Safeguards Plan, and is a member of the Operational Group of State Safeguards. Plus, he directs the community organization “Community Production of the Mayan Zone"—a network of producers and artisan families in 12 Mayan communities in the center of Quintana Roo in Mexico.
